SOLDIER
Hiro Hiro Art Space , Taipei
September 16 – October 22 , 2023
“Soldier” explores the role of the human body in contemporary society, the mechanisms of power operations, and the significance of the soldier as a symbol. We discuss the body’s position in the social structure, where it serves as both an architect of order and an exponent of individual assertions. Through the lens of body discipline and symbolization, we deeply contemplate the role and function of the body in society. By analyzing the unique symbol of the soldier, we strive to comprehend how individuals seek equilibrium between societal order and personal autonomy. These discussions provide us with a fresh perspective, guiding us to contemplate the complexity of the relationship between the human body and society.
SANDBOX
Mizuiro Workshop , Tainan
June 25 – July 31 , 2022
From the absurdity to resistance of Camus, from ”Upon the boulder” to ”Sandbox”, I have been thinking about how to show Albert Camus’ spirit in my work, especially about his non-violent yet ever-resisting attitude toward the absurdity that life presents to him and how he confronts it.In fact, Camus is not resisting anything specific. From that I begin to be aware of my anxiety, which I have been quite proud of, for it seems to draw a line between myself and other people, to reveal how absurd absurdity is and to highlight the fact that people like to circle themselves in a boundary of rationality and restrictions they themselves make up.A madman can only communicates his rationality to the world in abstraction – I embed mine into the idea of sandbox where rationality and irrationality form each other. To me it is a romantic liberation.
UPON THE BOULDER
Hiro Hiro Art Space , Taipei
April 17 – May 16 , 2021
Those demonstrated in this solo exhibition “Upon the Boulder” are based on re-reading and impression of “The Stranger,” classic literature published in 1942 by the 20th-century writer Albert Camus (Albert Camus, 1913-1960). The concept of Lifeworld (Lebenswelt) and the questioning of existence are the propositions that the artist continues to ponder in his paintings. Between the current era as well as the classic philosophical propositions that transcend time.
